Police investigate man’s stabbing death after night out with friends

Morgan Huxley spent Saturday night out with friends but was stabbed to death within hours of arriving home on Sydney’s north shore.

Police say his flatmate found him in the bedroom of a Neutral Bay unit about 3am on Sunday.

Homicide detectives said they were treating the 31-year-old’s death as suspicious but had yet to make any arrests.

An investigating officer said police believed Mr Huxley arrived at his Watson Street unit about 1am. The woman he shared the unit with told police she had no idea what had happened but was woken by a noise.

She found him in his bedroom bleeding heavily from a number of stab wounds and called triple-0.

Paramedics took him to the Royal North Shore Hospital but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have not said where or how many times he was stabbed or what type of weapon was used. But they denied earlier reports he had been stabbed in the back up to 30 times.

Detectives have viewed security footage taken from outside several businesses along Military Road including the Oaks Hotel.

One business owner said they were interested in looking at footage taken on Military Road between the hours of 12.15am and 3am.

Forensic officers scoured the outside of the Oakleigh unit block on Sunday and Watson Street was closed to traffic for most of the day.

At least two uniformed police were still guarding the front of the unit of Monday night.

A blue marquee remains outside the second floor unit to protect finger prints potentially left on the railings or any DNA left on the stairs, police said.

Mr Huxley owned and worked for his small business Huxley Marine, which was registered at a Balmain address. He graduated from Hunters Hill High School in 2000 before going to Sydney TAFE at Ultimo.

The unit he lived in was close to the intersection with the busy Military Road, just before the turn off to the Harbour Bridge and tunnel.
